Last week Friday, the students enjoyed their first field trip to the potato farm. They worked hard to dig up Okinawa's famous sweet potatoes! Students also were able to take home a bag of potatoes at the end of they day. I'm sure those potatoes tasted delicious after all that labor. We hope your family enjoyed the sweet potatoes! Thank you, Mrs. Fujii, for making this wonderful video for us to enjoy.

Looking for unique Christmas gifts? Come to our OCSI Holiday Market on Nov. 21st. The OCSI Parent-Teacher Fellowship have planned a fun day of shopping. Enjoy local craft artists, international food, and baked goods!
Excitement is in the air for Walkathon! It is very soon and we want to know if you and your family are coming. It is a very fun time for our OCSI families to experience together. K-2nd grade students must have a parent walk with them. Usually K-2nd grade students with parents, start off by catching the bus to the half way point, and walking half the course back to OCSI. However, if you are willing to try, you and your child may walk the entire course. But, the best part is crossing the finish line! If for some reason, you are unable to finish, there are busses at the checkpoints to ride back to school. Gambatte! (Try your best!)
There will also be a fun festival to enjoy with your family! Please see the Walkathon flyers and forms for more details. On Friday, we will enjoy our first field trip...Sweet Potato Digging! It is a very fun field trip. The farm space is limited, so parents are unable to join us for this field trip. However, the students will bring you home some sweet potatoes to enjoy and cook together!
For this field trip, you child will need to:
We will try to post some photos soon. Have a blessed week! Can you believe it? Time has gone by so quickly. We're near the end of first quarter, and we're happy about each child's growth. The first quarter ends on Friday, October 9th. There will be no school on Monday, 10/12. It is teacher development and records day. The second quarter will begin on Tuesday, 10/13. Report cards will be sent home during Parent Teacher Conference on Friday, 10/23. There will be no school for students on that day. We look forward with meeting with you!
K3- Monday, Sept. 28
K4- Monday, Sept. 28 K5- Tuesday, Sept. 29 If you would like to order photos, please send in the form and money. It is optional. There might be a typhoon headed our way! Please check the weather for updates. Please see our first post (Archive on the right, September 2015) about our typhoon procedures. Our school website will say if school is cancelled by 6:15am. If there is a typhoon next week and school is cancelled, we are unsure when retake photos will be at this time. We will update you when we find out. Thank you! It was such a beautiful day for a picnic! Thank you to all the families that were able to come. We hope you had a memorable time with your child! Here is a slideshow of some photos! Enjoy! Get ready...it's time for our annual Kindergarten Family Sports Day and Picnic!! Monday, September 21 from 9:30-12:00 at Sera En (The park just below OCSI. Look for the jungle gym and OCSI tents!)
There will be no school for kindergarten students on this day. Please don't send your child on the morning school bus. Parents/guardians will need to bring their child with them at 9:30. Parking is limited at the park, but families are welcome to park at our school near the soccer field and walk down to the lower field. Families are invited to join us for a fun day of games! We will begin with a welcome and prayer by Mr. Jernberg, our principal. We will sing songs together, then start our games! Parents, be ready to play with your child! After our games, we will award the students with prizes and families sit together and enjoy a picnic lunch. Please bring a lunch for your family! After that, it is free time for parents to stay and chat while children play, or if you need to head out that is fine as well! Remember, there is no school for Kindergarteners, so you must take your child home with you! :) Teachers will need to head back to school to prepare for progress reports and other things. Don't forget to wear sunscreen and a hat, students wear a yellow shirt if you have one, and don't forget to bring water! We look forward to seeing you at this special event! Come back and visit this website to view photos from this day! Every morning, the kindergarten students come together and sing songs of praise! So far the students have learned songs such as, "This is the Day, God is so Good, Allelu Praise Ye the Lord, Rejoice in the Lord Always, Oh Be Careful Little Eyes, My God is So Great". After we sing a few songs, we learn a Bible lesson from one of the teachers. This month, Mrs. Pallmann is teaching the Days of Creation. In one of her lessons to introduce God, she had a special surprise for the students...a huge parachute! The students were overjoyed! The students gathered around and puffed the parachute up (God is up!), brought the parachute down (God is down!), and circled around the students in the center (God is all around!). The students took turns holding the parachute and even going under it! The students' laughter and smiles were so precious! After the lesson, we always end our lesson by praying together and thanking God for our day.
